3 Reasons You Should Always Look Your Best (and How to Pull It Off)

 The other day, a friend of mine was writing at a  fast food place when she ran into a friend from high school that she hadn’t seen in 12 years. They spent 5 years in the same class, so it was nice to see her again after all that time.

What made the experience better was that she knew I looked good. It was nothing too fancy, but her clothes highlighted her strengths. she had a touch of make-up that gave her skin some color and vibrancy. Maybe she wasn’t stunning, but she looked good, her friend looked nice too.
they just notice these things.
If we had it our way, we’d always look our best without even lifting a finger......

But for many of us, looking great takes some effort. So it’s tempting not to care when things get in the way. And things usually just do.
However, you never know who or what the day will bring so it makes sense to look fine all the time.
So before we move on to our tips on how to look our best, let’s go over why you might want to make an effort:

1. You never know who you will run into during the day.

Even if we look radiant the majority of the time, Murphy’s Law ensures that we run into people we know and/or want to impress when we are at our worst.
With my friend, it would still have been a pleasant experience if neither of us looked good but that’s not the point. She could have been my boss. A colleague. An ex. A cute guy I wanted to meet…
These possibilities bring us to our second point.

2. You also never know what potential, unplanned activities can present themselves.

What if you have to go into an emergency meeting, take a job interview or have a coffee date with a crush or a potential business partner? It would be a shame if you had to turn it down because you didn’t like how you looked.

3. Looking your best boosts your confidence.

Feeling positive about yourself increases your chances of having a better day.

How to Pull It Off
It mostly comes down to right make-up, hair and clothes.
Make-up (and Hygiene)
Girls: Keep a light make-up kit with you at all times. What you most need is a waterproof (and “smudgeproof”) mascara, eyeliner and lipstick. It’s beneficial if you have a foundation and concealer.
However if your skin doesn’t have many flaws, you can skip the foundation. If you’ve room blush, put it. If not, using a little from your lipstick or lipgloss and putting it on your cheeks will do.
The kit can (and should) include a compact mirror, small toothbrush and toothpaste. Not only will this save you painful trips to the dentist’s office, but it’ll also make sure your smile is confident and beautiful at all times.
And in case your day takes a more hectic turn, a hairbrush and a travel-sized antiperspirant roll-ons will save you from self-doubting and potential embarrassment.

Guys: You are both lucky and unlucky when it comes to make-up. You’re lucky if you naturally look good, and unlucky because you can’t change your looks that dramatically if you want to.
That said, the roll-on, toothpaste, toothbrush and brush (or comb) will go a long way for you too. If you don’t want to carry these around, you can always drop by a drugstore, pick these up and throw them afterward.

Clothes
Guys: Keep it clean, basic and stylish. Don’t go overboard with bright colors or the hipster style. Unless your job and personality really call for it, you’re more likely to disappoint your audience.
And yes, Robert De Niro in the trailer of The Intern does look much better than all his young colleagues, despite the age difference.  Keep it comfortable and you, but don’t neglect the charming and stylish bit.

Girls: Keep it stylish, comfortable and in your own style. You need to be comfortable in your skin (and clothes) in case your day gets longer and active. You will also have more fun if you’re not uncomfortable, so don’t sacrifice comfort for the sake of beautiful. Opt for the charming middle instead.
